Established in 1969, Dantec has earned its position as the world leader in composite hose technology through continuous innovation and development. The company exports products from its UK factory to more than 60 countries. To produce the highest quality, comprehensive range of composite hose, Dantec manufactures hoses from the highest specification materials to the most stringent procedures in its purpose-built factory in the North of England.
Before implementing SYSPRO, extracting information on anything from cash flow and sales to stock levels was a challenge. Today, Dantec’s managers easily create essential reports that produce the required information in days instead of weeks, enabling managers to react to changing conditions more effectively. For example, sales reporting shows overall sales for set accounting periods as well as breakdowns and ranking for every product, together with the breakdown of individual orders and value levels.
SYSPRO has also delivered significant improvements in stock control. Previously, the system provided no visibility into stock levels, and this was left to irregular manual checks. With SYSPRO and its multiple warehousing capability, different items are now assigned to different warehouses, and so management – and sales and manufacturing – can identify exactly what is in stock, and manage this more effectively. Overall, this new capability has enabled Dantec to significantly reduce inventory levels.
The new system has also had a major impact on manufacturing and assembly. In the past the lack of effective control systems meant that reported inventory and WIP often ‘disappeared’, either because it did not exist or it had been allocated to an order without being recorded. Moreover, the old sales system did not provide any visibility of demand for assembled hose.
With SYSPRO, better inventory and WIP control not only means that hose manufacture is planned more effectively, but that the assembly operation has a much clearer idea of what is available to meet orders. Combine this with almost instant access to the data on new orders, and the result is a major improvement in production.
The company expects to see additional gains from the implementation of MRP. However, it has yet to make this step, being in the process of educating people into the system, the new practices required and in particular the discipline of accurate and on-time data recording.
Dantec now has an integrated finance, distribution, sales and manufacturing system that not only enhances business stability but is a catalyst for driving change through improved information flow, better practices, greater discipline and more effective control.
Dantec’s management team realized that internal control processes and systems were increasingly at odds with the efficient management of the business. Access to crucial sales and finance data needed for effective decision making and the almost non-existent IT support for manufacturing and assembly were becoming major hurdles.
After process mapping the entire business with the help of an external consultant, Dantec explored the market for a fully integrated ERP system that could deliver a rapid flow of information, provide a structured framework for greater management discipline, and create effective control practices. After reviewing three ERP products, Dantec selected SYSPRO.
